Otto Peisl

Otto Peisl (born October 23, 1916 in Munich , † October 14, 1997 in Cham ) was a German folk musician , folk music curator and folk song collector who worked mainly in the Upper Palatinate .

Life

Peisl was born in the Munich district of Haidhausen and grew up in Markt Indersdorf . In Munich he completed his training as a backer and labor service . In Nazi Germany , he served as a soldier and married in 1940, the Waldmünchnerin Fanny Schmid from Waldmünchen and settled in the Upper Palatinate, where he also during the Second World War, spent the holidays Front.

In the post-war years, Peisl's interest in folk music began. The main focus of his work was the preservation of folk songs and traditional music-making. He primarily promoted sacred folk music with Advent and Marian singing. A home evening he held in the large Waldmünchner Festhalle was followed by more than 1000 visitors and recorded by Radio Munich . Peisl also came up with the idea for the open-air festival " Trenck der Pandur vor Waldmünchen ". He initiated the regularly held “Böhmerwaldsingen”, for which he was awarded the Nordgau Culture Prize of the city of Amberg in 1966 , and founded the “Oberpfälzer Volkssängerkreis” ( Upper Palatinate Folk Song Circle since 1957 ), the first folk music association in Old Bavaria on January 23, 1955 , whose first chairman he was until the handover to Hans Weigert in 1994. At times the association comprised 150 groups in the four regions of Cham, Schwandorf , Regensburg and Steinwald / Stiftland .

Furthermore, Peisl was involved in arranging local singing and music groups for the Bavarian Radio and several folk music programs and radio reports from the Bavarian Forest . There were also 26 long-playing records and 30 music cassettes . In the 1995 Straubing calendar he was referred to as " Kiem Pauli der Oberpfalz". Peisl was also the Vice President of the Upper Palatinate Cultural Association .
