Otto Albert von Grone (born February 7, 1841 in Westerbrak , † May 16, 1907 in Westerbrak) was a Prussian lieutenant general , provost of Steterburg , Lord of Westerbrak and Knight of Honor of the Order of St. John .

Life

Otto Albert came from the noble family of Grone and was the son of Adolf Kurt Eckhart von Grone (1807-1885) and his wife Auguste Luise Amalie, nee von Bulow (1812-1893).

Military career

Grone visited the cadet schools Bensberg and Berlin and was on 17 May 1859 second lieutenant of the 2nd Guards Regiment walk the Prussian Army transferred. After the end of the war he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on October 30, 1866 and as such he finished his training at the War Academy by July 27, 1868. Subsequently, Grone was first assigned to the Guard Rifle Battalion until April 30, 1869, and then to the General Staff until April 30, 1870 . On June 17, 1870, he was briefly transferred to the Potsdam War School as a teacher under position à la suite of his regiment .

Due to the beginning of the war against France , however, he was relieved of this task on July 17, 1870 and was appointed adjutant of the mobile Guard Landwehr Infantry Division. The appointment as company commander in the Kaiser Franz Garde Grenadier Regiment No. 2 took place on August 21, 1875. Here he served until January 13, 1879 and was in the meantime from September 2 to 16, 1878 as an observer to the maneuvers of the Italian army commanded. Then Grone joined Grenadier Regiment No. 2 and adjutant at the General Command of the II Army Corps and was promoted to major on March 13, 1879 . As such, on February 12, 1881, he became commander of the 2nd Battalion of Fusilier Regiment No. 34 . He gave up this post on December 5, 1883, became commander of the Hanoverian Jäger Battalion No. 10 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on November 18, 1886 . On September 6, 1887, he was transferred to Schwerin as a regular officer in the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Grenadier Regiment 89 . There Grone was given the command of the regiment on October 15, 1888 under position à la suite of the regiment. On March 22, 1889, he was promoted to colonel and appointed regimental commander. With his promotion to major general on January 27, 1892, Grone became the commander of the 59th Infantry Brigade in Saarburg . His assignment as representative of the commander of the 28th Division in Karlsruhe followed on August 11, 1895. Seven days later, Grone was promoted to lieutenant general and on August 27, 1895 he was finally appointed division commander.

After the maneuver against the 29th Division , Grone submitted his departure in 1898. This was granted to him on November 25, 1898 with the award of the Order of the Crown, 1st class with pension . In recognition of his many years of service, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle 1st Class with Oak Leaves on September 13, 1899 .

family

Grone married on October 23, 1873 in Holzhausen with Anna Wilhelmine Karoline Elise Klara von Oheimb (1849-1900). The marriage had five children:
