Architecture and history
The massive building was erected in 1909/10 for the manufacturer Louis Strenge. The design of the facade refers to local buildings of the baroque and early classicism . A first building application , submitted at the beginning of 1909, was rejected with reference to a local statute that was issued in Quedlinburg in 1909 and regulating town planning. The reason given was that the planned new building [disturbs] the harmonious appearance of the small town , which is given a special charm by the Nikolai Church behind it with its massive structural dimensions . A then revised and correspondingly improved design was finally granted a building permit .
