Conflict with the world association IHF

Within the world association IHF there have been plans since 2017 to divide the PATHF into two continental associations for the north and south of America. This led to a conflict with the PATHF. On January 14, 2018, the IHF Council suspended the PATHF and announced that it would host future qualifying tournaments for World Championships and Olympic Games. In addition, the IHF divided the handball federations of the Pan-American continent into two separate confederations:

North America and the Caribbean Handball Confederation
South and Central America Handball Confederation

The PATHF rejected the IHF's decisions in a statement called an official statement on January 18, 2018 and announced legal action. The Pan-American federation, which also relies on the "overwhelming" support of its member federations, appealed against the geographical division to the IHF arbitration court on March 6, 2018. The PATHF justified the objection in a statement u. a. with formal errors during the decision-making process within the IHF.

In April 2018, the PATHF finally called the International Court of Sport (CAS) and, according to its own information, applied for the decision to split the IHF Congress in Antalya on November 11, 2017 and the IHF Council's decision to dissolve the PATHF on January 14, 2018 to be revoked. The CAS proceedings are pending . [outdated]
