Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA ( PGNiG , Polish Oil and Gas Company ) is a Polish oil and gas company based in Warsaw . The company's share is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and is included in its WIG 20 leading index .

history

PGNIG was incorporated as a state-owned company on December 1, 1982. The companies united in it look back on company histories dating back to the 19th century. On October 30, 1996, PGNIG was converted into a public company. The company went on September 23, 2005 with an opening price of 3.81 euros on the Warsaw Stock Exchange .

With the accession of Poland to the EU and the opening of the energy market there, business expanded towards the west.

In 2009, 61,000 former and current employees were entitled to take over 15% of the PGNiG shares free of charge. They hold 750 million shares out of a total of 5 billion. This reduces the Ministry of Finance's share to 72.05 percent.

At the beginning of October 2018, PGNiG signed two contracts with the US company Venture Global LNG for liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from the USA for over 2 million tons annually for 20 years. On December 19, 2018, Port Arthur LNG, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy in San Diego, in the presence of representatives of the governments of the USA and Poland, signed the acquisition of two million tons of LNG annually (2.7 billion cubic meters after degassing) between 2023 and Agreed in 2043. PGNIG is acquiring the gas at the Port Arthur LNG Terminal, which is being built in Jefferson County, Texas. In total, PGNiG can offer at least 7,450,000 tons of liquefied natural gas per year from 2023.

Sponsorship

The company has sponsored and named after the highest Polish men's handball league, the PGNiG Superliga Mężczyzn , since 2010 .
