Paul Kaspar , also Pavel Kašpar, (* 1960 in Ostrava , Czechoslovakia ), is a German-Czech pianist .

Paul Kaspar received his first piano lessons in Ostrava at the age of five. He later completed his piano studies with Rudolf Macudzinski at the University of Music in Bratislava , with František Rauch at the Prague Conservatory and as a master student of Ludwig Hoffmann at the Munich University of Music , where he received his diploma.

Kaspar has given concerts in Europe, the USA, Canada, Israel, Mexico and China, among others with the Prague Symphony and the Prague Radio Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma , the Beijing Symphony Orchestra , the New Westphalia Philharmonic and the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México , the Philharmonic Orchestra Janáček , the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim and the Philharmonie Brno under the direction of conductors such as Petr Altrichter, Heiko Mathias Förster , Libor Pešek , Jiří Kout , Dirk Kaftan , Mladen Tarbuk and Roberto Paternostro . He also appeared several times at the Janáček Festival .

Kaspar also devotes himself to chamber music. In 1993 he founded the Duo Moravia with the cellist Jiří Hanousek , with whom he released several CDs, including the first recording of the complete works for cello and piano by Josef Bohuslav Foerster . He has also worked with artists such as Thomas A. Irnberger , David Geringas , Roman Novotný (flute), Bryn Terfel , Miroslav Dvorský (tenor), the quartet of the Berlin Philharmonic and the Pražák Quartet, with whom he premiered the piano quintet by Otomar Kvěch in 1998 played in the Rudolfinum in Prague .

The composer Roland Leistner-Mayer dedicated his piano concerto to him, which Kaspar premiered in 2001 with the Hof Symphony Orchestra and which was recorded by the BR . He made recordings for various other radio stations, including NDR , HR , SWR , RAI and the Czech Radio.

Kaspars is particularly regarded as an important interpreter of the works of Czech composers. His repertoire encompasses a broad spectrum of musical styles, from the Baroque to the Viennese Classic and Romantic periods to contemporary composers such as Petr Eben , Jindřich Feld and Bohuslav Martinů , whose entire piano works he recorded in co-production with the BR.
