Paul Möhring
Paul Möhring (born September 26, 1890 in Hamburg ; † August 25, 1976 there ) was a German editor , playwright and theater historian . He worked mainly on Hamburg issues.
Hamburg originals
His adaptations of the life stories of three Hamburg originals - Hans Hummel , Zitronenjette and Jakob Friedrich Kirchhoff , better known as "Vetter Kirchhoff" - whose public image is today not a little influenced by Möhring's work are still known today.
Cultural historian
From the 1920s Möhring published on the Hamburg theater scene; his first publication dealt with the Hamburg Volksoper .
Without a year (1965), the other St. Pauli, a cultural history of the Reeperbahn from Möhring's pen, was published by Matari Verlag, Hamburg.
The partly ethnological preoccupation with his hometown is reflected in the very realistic character drawings in his plays. As a Hamburg connoisseur of culture and the scene, Möhring was so much in demand as a consultant for productions that dealt with the Hanseatic city. Paul Möhring's documents can be viewed in the theater collection at Hamburg University.
Paul Möhring was buried in the Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg in grid square AC 31 (south of Chapel 6).
Stage writer
The history of the St. Pauli Theater is inextricably linked with Möhring, to whom he gave an exclusive success with his “Volksstück mit Musik” Zitronenjette , which repeatedly shaped the theater in new productions. In the mid-1920s , Möhring initially wrote the role for the actor Ernst Budzinski ; later Henry Vahl was seen as Henriette Müller.
