Paul Wayland Bartlett , also Paul W. Bartlett (born January 24, 1865 in New Haven (Connecticut) , † September 20, 1925 in Paris ), was an American sculptor . Some recent English-speaking art historians attribute his works - executed in the Beaux Arts style - to heroic realism .

Life

Paul Wayland Bartlett, the son of the sculptor Truman Howe Bartlett (1835–1922) from Dorset (Vermont) , went to Paris in 1880 and initially tried his hand at animal sculptures with Emmanuel Frémiet in the Jardin des Plantes . In 1887 he received a medal for this in the Salon de Paris . He was elected to the jury for the Paris World Exhibitions in 1889 and 1900 .

His works found their place in the museums of New York , Chicago , Philadelphia and St. Louis .
