Petar Popović (born February 14, 1959 in Orlovat ) is a Serbian chess player .

Life

Petar Popović was awarded the title of International Master by FIDE in 1978 , then the title of Grand Master in 1981 .

In the Chess Olympiads in 1986 , 1988 , 1990 and 1994 he played in the Yugoslav team, also at the World Team Championship in 1989, took second place in Yugoslavia, and in the first round of the European Team Championship in 1992 (after the first round Yugoslavia because of the war in Bosnia from Tournament excluded).

In Serbia he plays for the NSK DDOR Novi Sad club, with which he won the team championship in 2008 and took part in the European Club Cup in 2002 . He used to play for the teams of Partizan Belgrade , with which he took part in the European Club Cup in 1995, and Agrouniversal Zemun, with which he took part in the European Club Cup in 1996 and 1997. In the German federal chess league he played for Rochade Bielefeld in the 1988/89 season and for SC Remagen from 2006 to 2012. From 2013 to 2016 he played at DJK Aufwärts St. Josef Aachen in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the Austrian State League A , Popović played from 1993 to 1998 at SC Margareten Winterthur from Vienna , with whom he was team champion in 1994 and 1995 and took part in the European Club Cup in 1993, and from 1998 to 2002 at SK Hietzing . In the Belgian interclubs, Popović played at KSK 47 Eynatten until 2007 , with whom he was team champion in 2004 and 2006 , in the 2007/08 season at the Brussels Chess Club and since 2008 with Schachfreunde Wirtzfeld , with whom he won the team championship in 2009 and 2013 . Popović won the Luxembourg team championship in 2005 with De Sprénger Echternach , he was also active in France with Philidor Mulhouse .
