The Roman Catholic parish church Taufkirchen an der Pram is located in Taufkirchen an der Pram in the market town of Taufkirchen an der Pram in the Schärding district in Upper Austria . The church, consecrated to the Annunciation , belongs to the Andorf deanery in the Linz diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

A church was mentioned in documents around 1200. At the time of the early church organization in the Middle Ages, parts of the area around Taufkirchen an der Pram belonged to the original parish of St. Weihflorian . Like the Münzkirchen parish , this consisted of areas that had originally belonged to the St. Severin parish in Passau's Innstadt . St. Weihflorian was first designated as an independent parish in 1182 when it was incorporated into the Passau “Innbruckamt”, which was subordinate to the St. Aegidien Hospital in the city center. The parish of St. Weihflorian was very extensive: It lay between the area of activity of the original parish of St. Severin and that of the original parish of Münsteuer and included the area of today's parishes of Brunnenthal , Schärding , St. Florian am Inn , Suben , St. Marienkirchen and Eggerding , plus shares in today's parishes of Taufkirchen , Lambrechte and Rainbach . When the parish headquarters were relocated to Schärding in 1380, the St. Weihflorian area around Taufkirchen an der Pram became a branch of Schärding.

The Gothic church, located on a hill, was built after the middle of the 15th century with the master builder Stephan Krumenauer . The church tower, which had leaned sharply in previous years, collapsed on October 16, 1922, and the organ was also destroyed. It was rebuilt in its old form in 1923.

architecture

A square, star-vaulted side chapel adjoins the strikingly spacious Gothic single-nave, three-bay, star-rib vaulted nave to the side of the eastern yoke. The equally wide, three-bay, ribbed, vaulted choir closes with a three-eighths closure. In the choir there are figural capitals similar to the parish church of Braunau . The rebuilt west tower has an eight-sided pointed helmet. The richly professed gothic sacristy portal has a door with gothic fittings.

Furnishing

The high altar is neo-Gothic. The side altars around 1630 have figural elements from the middle of the 18th century. The pulpit from the second half of the 17th century was changed in the 18th century. In the north side chapel there is an altar by Josef Furthner (1925) and it bears a good Gothic statue of Our Lady from 1450/1460. There are also angel statues by Matthias Kager (1771/1774). In the choir there are four oval pictures in good frames for the four evangelists from the first quarter of the 18th century. The Stations of the Cross are from the first quarter of the 18th century. In the southern side chapel there is a marble slab with a figure of a knight from Wernher von Messenpeck, who died in 1518, and there are other heraldic tombstones of Messenpeck.

The organ that was erected after the tower collapsed was very prone to failure, which is why it was replaced in 1996 by a new instrument from Rowan West .
