Philip II of Savoy (also Ohneland or Philip of Bresse ; * February 5, 1438 in Chambéry ; † November 7, 1497 ibid) was Count of Bresse and in the last year of his life, from 1496, Duke of Savoy , Prince of Piedmont , Count from Aosta and Maurienne . He was a son of Ludwig , Duke of Savoy, and Anna of Lusignan .

Life

At a young age he rose up against his father, but was defeated and taken by the French King Louis XI. imprisoned in Loches Castle from 1464 to 1466 by order of his father . After he was released, he stood with Charles the Bold against Louis XI. In the course of this he was accepted into the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1468 . Philip was one of the main opponents of the Dukes of Savoy and the French regents.

After the death of his great-nephew Charles II , he took over the government in Savoy for a short time.
