The city of Piggott is connected to the American author and Nobel Prize winner for literature Ernest Hemingway , whose second wife Pauline Pfeiffer was the daughter of the landowner and businessman Paul Pfeiffer who later lived there. Together with his wife, Hemingway visited their parents in Piggott several times, where he wrote parts of his novel In Another Land and other works. The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center , which is operated by Arkansas State University , is now located in the former property of the Pfeiffer family .
Pigott was also one of the filming locations for Andy Griffith's acting debut A Face in the Crowd (original title: A Face in the Crowd) from 1957. In addition to Patricia Neal , some residents Piggotts also worked as extras . Other scenes were filmed in the neighboring city of Paragould. The film features the Piggott Mohawks ' football field , the Clay County's former county jail and a swimming pool on the property of Matilda and Karl Pfeiffer. Piggott was chosen as the location after a friend of Ernest Hemingway's Toby Bruce recommended the location to screenwriter Budd Schulberg .
The city was also mentioned in an episode of the Arkansas sitcom Daddy Creates Us All (Original Title: Evening Shade , 1990-1994). In it, the high school football team headed by coach Wood Newton (played by Burt Reynolds ) celebrates a tie against the Piggott High School team, to which they had previously lost in almost every encounter.
