Pilismarót is a Hungarian community in the county Esztergom in Komárom-Esztergom . The districts of Basaharc and Dunapart belong to the municipality .

Geographical location

Pilismarót is located on the right bank of the Danube . Neighboring communities are Dömös and Esztergom .

history

The history of the village goes back to prehistory . Archaeological finds have appeared in over 40 locations in the area , but the most significant are those from Roman times . The settlement was on the Limes , was called Ad Herculem and it was considered a large colony with a serious fortress and watchtowers .

The further history of the village is connected with the history of the monastic orders . Béla IV gave the village to the Benedictine Order . King Sigismund gave the village later, the provost of Esztergom . The village belonged to the Paulines until 1493 . The Mühlental-Bach , named after the mills that used to grind here , is said to have been a popular recreation and picnic spot for King Matthias . On the way out of his Visegrad castle, he liked to take a break after the hunt . In the valley of Miklós-deák (Nicholas Student), it is said that Nicholas, the king's scribe, enjoyed sitting .

The country house on the main street was built by Gustav Heckenast . The romantic villa with wooden columns and one floor was built in 1860. According to memories, Ferenc Deák worked out the settlement with Austria in this house . Maybe it's just a legend, but it is certain that almost all famous writers and poets visited the house of the famous printer Heckenast.

In the middle of the village is the Roman Catholic church built in 1821 with portal and tower . The statue of the Dobozi couple stands in front of the church. According to legends, they fled their burning house from the Turks . Mihály Dobozi's wife asked to be stabbed by him so as not to fall into the hands of the Turks. He later fell in the unequal battle against the Turks. The event is associated with the nearby Basaharc hill .

The Protestant church can be seen from afar . It is the oldest building in the village. Its foundation stones date from the medieval Pauline era. It was taken over by the Calvinists in 1786 when Joseph II , "the king with the hat", dissolved the order by decree .

The free beach , which has always been popular, is one of the best on Hungary's Danube. That is why the beach was already called "Silver Beach " or "Lido of the Danube" in the 1930s . This is another reason why the recreation and weekend houses were built on the bank.
