Police (Serbia)
The Serbian Police ( Serbian Полиција Србије Policija Srbije ) is part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), with which they carry out public administration . The police and the Ministry of the Interior represent the legal system as the executive in their actions .
The Serbian police officers are often understood to be uniformed and non-uniformed police officers, employees of the public administration and members of special units such as the gendarmerie .
tasks
The joint tasks of the Serbian Police and the Ministry of Interior include:
- Danger prevention, prevention and prevention together with the security authorities ,
- Assistance,
- Provision of information,
- Law enforcement ,
- Prosecution of administrative offenses ,
- Free passage of state guests ( defense against danger),
- Traffic control ,
- Protection of private rights ,
- Control of state borders,
- Control of movements and stay in the border zone,
- Control of movement and residence of foreigners ,
- Acquisition, possession and storage of weapons and ammunition,
- Production of explosives, flammable liquids and gases,
- Training of the staff as well as other tasks which are determined by law.
The Ministry of the Interior also has the task of handling various formalities relating to citizenship in cooperation with the local police stations .
- Issuance of the citizen's national identification number (Jedinstveni matični broj građanina; JMBG),
- Issuance of the identity card ,
- Issuance of travel documents .
organization
The Serbian police report directly to the Ministry of the Interior and is sometimes equated with it by the population. The General Police Directorate operates five separate departments:
- Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP)
- General Police Directorate
- Organization, Prevention and Local Police Department
- Department of Public Safety and Order and Other Police Matters
- Department for Special Actions, Police Formation Interventions, Defense Preparations and Stock Preparation
- Labor Legality Control Department
- Team building, improvement and police equipment department
- General Police Directorate
The Ministry of the Interior operates across the country and is responsible for enforcing state law. These include corporate law, drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, computer crime, organized crime, forced prostitution, serious fraud and counter-terrorism. It represents the legal system as an executive in its police action . Thus, the Ministry of the Interior is also a police and law enforcement agency.
There are 161 police stations , 62 border crossings and 49 traffic police stations across the country.
education
Police training is provided by the Police Training Center or the Crime and Police Academy.

Personnel and numbers
On September 30, 2006 , the Ministry of the Interior had a total of 42,740 employees. 80.04% of all employees were men and 19.96% were women. The number of uniformed police officers was 26,527, 93.1% of them men and 6.9% women.

License Plate
The current Serbian police license plates were introduced on January 1, 2011 after a long period of preparation. The introduction was originally planned for July 2009, but was then postponed. The police license plates, like the normal vehicle license plates, are based on the European standard and for the first time correspond to the standard size of 520 mm × 110 mm. The Serbian police use license plates with white letters on a blue background. They show two groups of digits after the Cyrillic letter П (P).

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) is a minister. The current Minister of the Interior, Ivica Dačić , has held this position since July 7, 2008.
