occupation

Color Change is a German crime film by Hans Erich Viet from 2007. The television film was released as the 288th episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 . The Commissioner Hinrichs is investigating his 28th case. It is the fourth case for his colleague Tellheim.

action

The commissioners Jens Hinrichs and Markus Tellheim currently only have to clarify small offenses that could somehow belong together. There was a fire in two Turkish food stalls almost at the same time. Right-wing groups come into consideration, but they cannot do anything against them without concrete evidence. The very next day, a supplier dies in a warehouse. At first glance, it looks like an accident. The forklift overturned and driver Rene Grasberg was buried under a stack of pallets. The inspectors Hinrichs and Tellheim are investigating murder, however, because there are motives for the crime and inconsistencies at the scene of the accident. Hinrichs had seen for himself how the Vietnamese restaurant operator Giang Nguyen had quarreled with the victim the day before. The camp helper Joku is also suspicious, but he does not have a permanent address and therefore cannot yet be questioned.

The forensic medical examination proves the inspectors right, because the victim shows signs of blows on the back. Tellheim taps on the protection racketeer Harry Wendt, the incidents of the snack bar operators would also fit in with this. With him he still has an old account open, because his sister got caught in these circles and died in the process. When he learns that Giang Nguyen's eleven-year-old son was killed in an arson attack and is currently in the hospital, this leads to his suspicions. However, Hinrichs is of the opinion that the right-wing radical grouping of the place is behind it. Oddly enough, both commissioners are right. For years there has been a very active “Heimatverein” headed by the real estate agent Ommer, which allegedly wants to defend itself against the foreign protection money mafia with a “security guard”. So the investigators find out that the so-called "Heimatverein" is extorting protection money itself and that the right-wing extremists are Ommer's henchmen.

Hinrichs and Tellheim are able to persuade Minh Nguyen to testify because he involuntarily witnessed the arson attacks against the snack bar operators. The men had beaten him up and set his hair on fire. Now his father, who was intimidated by the events, finally testifies. He had confided in his friend Grasberg that he had to pay "donations" to the Heimatverein for some time. Grasberg got angry and wanted to tackle Ommer, who then used his troop against the Grasbergs. Camp attendants Joku had seen everything and therefore kept hidden all these days. When Hinrichs and Tellheim find him, he is ready to testify against the thugs.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv thinks: “This thriller from the tranquil MeckPomm was tough stuff - just as tough as the news from the east German province. But it was not just the explosive nature of the material that made Hans-Erich Viet's 'color change' a largely successful 'police call'. "

Tilmann P. Gangloff also finds words of praise at Kino.de and says: “There are probably not many reasons to be grateful to television in the GDR today; but the crime series 'Polizeiruf 110' has undoubtedly done the ARD program good. The films from Munich (BR) and Schwerin (NDR) in particular are often better than any 'Tatort' because the concepts are not as rigid and the authors are more free to play with the characters. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best possible rating (thumbs up) and called color change “a highlight from the Meck-Pomm series”.
