Vorwärts wie Rückwärts is a German crime film by Hannu Salonen from 2005. The television film was released as the 271st episode of the Polizeiruf 110 film series and was produced on behalf of the NDR under the direction of Andreas Kleinert . Chief Detective Jens Hinrichs ( Uwe Steimle ) is investigating in his 24th case. For his colleague Tobias Törner ( Henry Hübchen ) it is the 5th and last case in Schwerin .

action

The Schwerin police chief inspectors Hinrichs and Törner have to clear up the death of the twenty-two-year-old synchronous jumper Swen Kröger. Since his partner and friend had recently died in a car accident and thus the sports career seemed to be over, the investigators consider a suicide to be possible. The cause of death was pseudo-chlorine, with which the young man had poisoned himself and which was in his drinking bottle.

In order to be able to definitely rule out a homicide, Törner and Hinrichs go to Berlin, where a murder attempt was carried out on two synchronized jumpers last year. The incident was put on file at the time because neither a motive nor a perpetrator could be found.

Via a palindrome that was sent to Hinrichs as a text message by a stranger, the inspectors track down a dangerous psychopath. Obviously, in both cases, someone did not want to allow something that “belonged together” to separate. Someone who is obsessed with symmetry and knows the synchronized diver scene very well. Törner and Hinrichs try to set a trap for the murderer. You have a false report published, according to which two girls want to separate from the jumping squad. But the perpetrator sees through the plan. Törner still manages to find out the identity of her stranger with a criminal talent for combination: Otto Renner, a lover of palindromes, lost his twin brother in childhood. He projected his physical imperfection onto athletes and an obsessive-compulsive disorder developed on symmetry between people.

background

The film deals with the topic of separation on different levels. In addition to the main motive of the perpetrator of not wanting to let something that belong together separate, Hinrichs has major marital problems and has to recognize: "Everyone has the right to separate - if he wants." Törner's departure from the police call remains in the story itself in the background, but also plays a role overall.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv writes slightly wistfully: “The 'Polizeiruf 110' from Schwerin has always been a small impertinence for friends of traditional crime fiction. Just as it was often a pleasure for melancholics and cineastes. In 'Vorwärts wie Rückwärts' for the last time - at least in this concentrated power - that artistically designed Meck-Pomm-Tristesse blows into German living rooms. " the soul at half-mast. This lone wolf will be missing from our crime scene. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best rating (thumbs up) and said: "A worthy farewell for sympathy cop Törner."
