Pontus Alexander Ludwig Graf Brevern-de la Gardie ( Russian Александр Иванович граф Бреверн де Лагарди Aleksandr Ivanovich Brewern de Lagardi ; * 4. January 1814 in Kostifer , Estonia ; † 20th March 1890 in Haapsalu (Estonia)) was a Baltic German Adelmann , Swedish count , Russian general and member of the Russian State Council . He came from the noble family of Breverns , whose origins go back to the 16th century.

His grandparents were Heinrich Johann von Brevern (1749–1803) and Anna Elisabeth geb. Staël von Holstein , his parents were Heinrich Johann von Brevern auf Kostifer (1775-1850), a son of Heinrich Johann von Brevern and the former lady-in-waiting Maria De la Gardie , with whom he was married in second marriage.

Noble family de la Gardie

The De la Gardie are a Swedish noble family of French descent that has been a count since 1625, who rose to the highest nobility and state offices in the 17th century and decisively shaped Sweden . In the absence of a male heir, the primogeniture was transferred to Pontus Alexander, who thus became Count Brevern-de la Gardie from 1852.

Life

His military service began Pontus Alexander Ludwig von Brevern-de la Gardie at the Michael Artillery School ( Russian Михайловское артиллерийское училище ) in Saint Petersburg. In the later military academy of the artillery he went through several officer courses and received the officer's license in 1831 . In 1834 he was transferred to the Guards Artillery and was promoted to colonel in 1844 . In 1851 he became commander of the Chevalier Guard Regiment and in 1852 promoted to major general. From 1855 he was a general in the imperial entourage (general à la suite) of Tsar Nicholas I (1825–1855) and in 1856 was appointed adjutant general of the Tsar. After his promotion to lieutenant general , he took over command of the 1st Guard Cavalry Division. In 1862 he was appointed chief of staff of the independent guard corps, after its dissolution in 1864 he became chief of staff of the guard troops and the troops in the St. Petersburg military district . From 1865 to 1869 he was commander in chief in the military district of Kharkov and in 1869 was again general à la suite with Tsar Alexander II (1855-1881). He then took over the command of the Moscow military district until 1888, and after retiring from the Imperial Russian Army, he became a member of the State Council.

Pontus Alexander married in 1854 the lady-in-waiting Maria Alexandrovna Vojeikow (ru: Мария Александровна Воейкова), born June 11, 1828; † October 18, 1906 in Saint Petersburg. The descendants write to Count / Countess Brevern de la Gardie:
