With effect from January 1, 2016, the formerly independent municipalities of Chaux-des-Prés and Prénovel were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Nanchez . Only Prénovel received the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Chaux-des-Prés.

geography

Prénovel is located at 905  m , about 14 km north of the city of Saint-Claude (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , slightly elevated on the western slope of the Combe du Nanchey, southwest of the Grandvaux plateau, between the forest heights of the Forêt de Prénovel in the west and the Bois de la Joux Derrière in the east.

The area of the former municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The landscape is characterized by parallel ridges and longitudinal hollows, which are oriented towards the south-south-west-north-north-east in accordance with the direction of the fold of the Jura in this area. The central part of the area of Prénovel is occupied by the Combe du Nanchey (an average of 900  m ), which forms a syncline in geological terms . This roughly 1 km wide, boggy valley low is drained by the Bief de Nanchey , which flows to the north-northeast, crosses the Bois de la Joux Derrière with a gorge and seeps away outside the municipal area on the edge of the Grandvaux plateau.

The Combe du Nanchey is flanked in the east by the forest heights of the Bois de la Joux Derrière (up to 978  m ). To the west, the area extends into the extensive forest of the Forêt de Prénovel , which is characterized by ridges and hollows without drainage above ground. At 1045  m , in the far north on the edge of the Bois des Mouillères, the highest point of Prénovel is reached. The former municipality is part of the Upper Jura Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura ).

The Commune déléguée Prénovel comprised the hamlet of Prénovel de Bise ( 900  m ) on the western edge of the Combe du Nanchey and some individual farms. Neighboring towns of Prénovel are Saint-Maurice-Crillat in the north, Grande-Rivière and Chaux-des-Prés in the east, Les Piards in the south and Châtel-de-Joux in the west.

history

The Prénovel area was colonized in the 14th century by families who had emigrated from the Swiss canton of Vaud . Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

The village church of Prénovel was built in the 19th century. The cemetery chapel dates from the 16th century. One of the natural attractions is the Prénovel moor, which is accessible through a nature trail.

Economy and Infrastructure

As a resort in a popular excursion area in the High Jura, Prénovel today also benefits from tourism, especially from winter tourism, when cross-country skiing and alpine skiing can be practiced in the region. The village is the location of the Center Art et Nature.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Les Crozets to Grande-Rivière. Other road connections exist with Châtel-de-Joux, Saint-Maurice-Crillat and Chaux-des-Prés.
