The province of Jaén is a province in the north of the Cajamarca region in northern Peru . It has an area of 5232.57 km². At the 2017 census, 185,432 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 183,634. The administrative seat is the city of Jaén .
Geographical location
The province of Jaén extends in the west to the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The Río Marañón runs along the eastern provincial border.
The province of Jaén borders the Amazonas region to the east, the Cutervo province to the south, the Lambayeque region and the Piura region to the west, and the San Ignacio province and Ecuador to the north .
