Przewóz ( German Priebus , Upper Sorbian Přibuz ) is a village on the Lusatian Neisse in the powiat Żarski of the Lubusz Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with about 3200 inhabitants. There is a border crossing into the Saxon town of Podrosche .
geography
The municipality of Przewóz is the southernmost municipality in the Żary district and the Lubusz Voivodeship. Most of the community, including Przewóz itself, is located in historic Silesia ; some of the places south of Przewóz, however, are in the Polish part of Upper Lusatia . A few kilometers south of Przewóz (Priebus) is the German village of Klein Priebus .
history
Priebus was originally a Silesian castle on the border with Upper Lusatia , which became prosperous due to the bridge location on the Neisse, which led to the settlement of the surrounding areas. The country town became one of the three centers of the Principality of Sagan .
On October 1, 1932, the Sagan district , which had emerged roughly from the Principality of Sagan, was dissolved and distributed to the neighboring districts. The city of Priebus and the surrounding rural communities were incorporated into the Rothenburg district (Ob. Laus.) . Two months later the city was renamed "Priebus (Silesia)".
After the Second World War , the city came under Polish administration and lost its town charter.
