occupation

Punk Rock Splatter Massacre (OT: Punk Rock Holocaust ) is an American slasher film that plays on the 2003 Vans Warped Tour . Director Doug Sakmann accompanied the concert series and filmed the film with the help of Kevin Lymann , the organizer, and Heather Vantress, the tour's official reporter.

action

Heather Vantress, the official reporter for the Vans Warped Tour, should report on the tour "as objectively as possible" according to Kevin Lyman's instructions. Two days before the tour, there is a murder at the HorrorPops concert . Before the tour begins, the watchdogs of the climbing wall die after an unknown man manipulated the ropes. Lyman tries to downplay the deaths as a tragic climbing accident. The tour opens and at the first concert, Simple Plan guitarist Jeff Stinco is impaled on his own bass guitar . The vegetarian catering of the tour is mixed with animal fat by a mysterious man wearing a bandana , orange trousers, a Vans T-shirt and sunglasses. The vegetarians die of meat poisoning.

Vantress happened to hear a horror story from an earlier warped tour at the security camp. The "Brutal Enigma" group had with an old Black Flag - Demo surreptitiously a place on the tour. But even at their first gig on the tour, the synth-pop band was mercilessly booed. When Lyman kicked the group off the tour, singer William Van Landingham, III had sworn revenge. The murders continue, Andrew WK plus his entire backing band die in an explosion, some members of The Used and other members of The Simple Plan die. Lyman covers up the murders by having the corpses fed as a barbecue .

Worried about his money, Belial asked Mega Records and sent his helpers over to the site. Lyman can placate them as he creates the group “Simply Used” from the remaining members of Simple Plan and The Used. But the henchmen and this group must also die. Vantress, who still has Lyman under suspicion, begins to research. Meanwhile, more murders occur at concerts by Dropkick Murphys , Rancid and The Kids of Witney High . Only the band The Phenomenauts oppose the killer, but the killer can fend them off and they flee with their tour bus. The killer blows it up.

Vantress finally finds out that Belial is actually Satan and equipped the singer William Van Landingham, III with magical abilities and a sword that turns his victims into zombies when touched . However, his plan went wrong because the band was just too bad. Heather confronts Lyman with her research and Lyman realizes his mistake. The zombies attack the two during their conversation and Heather flees to New York City to see Satan. At a concert in Asbury Park , New Jersey , the rest of the tour is wiped out in an arena collapse (organizers miraculously survive).

Belial / Satan explains to Heather how to stop the killer and at a concert by French hardcore punk band Beret! she confronts the killer who explains to her that he only wants to save the independent scene from commercial pop-punk . Heather can cut off the head of the killer and brings him to Lyman. He explains to the head that he has always had a heart for independent fans and then lets the head be destroyed. For the next year a new headliner will accompany the tour with Athicus (a new invention of Satan). At the end you can see Lyman's demonically sparkling eyes.

background

Doug Sakmann organized a stage for the filmmakers of Troma Entertainment on the 2002 Vans Warped Tour under the name Tromaville on Tour . This also brought me into contact with Lloyd Kaufman , who plays the unscrupulous record company boss Belial in the film. With a half-finished script, he went on the Vans Warped Tour with his production company Backseat Conceptions . To save costs and personnel, he played the killer in the film himself. Tour boss Kevin Lyman and reporter Heather Vantress, who were also always present, took on other leading roles. In addition to working on the film, the production company also had a stage on which Beret !, The Kids of Whitney High, Treephort , Cleric and The Phenomenauts played. The very special independent groups can all also be seen in the film. Further music excerpts in the film come from the members of the Warped tour, including Simple Plan, The Used, Rancid, Andrew WK, The Suicide Machines , Pennywise and Less Than Jake .

The film contains numerous splatter sequences, in total over 110 people are killed in the film. The sequence in New York City in which Heather Vandress walks in amazement through New York City is a throwback to Friday the 13th Part VIII - Manhattan Death Trap .

The production time after the tour was another eight months. The scenes with Lloyd Kaufman, the opening sequence with the HorrorPops and the finale with Beret! were not recorded on the Warped Tour, but filmed afterwards. The Phenomenauts' tour bus explosion was not recreated at the express request of the group, but the bus was actually blown up.

The film was released on DVD in 2004. A German-language publication followed in 2006 via Sunny Bastards . In 2008 the second part was completed, recorded on the 2004 Vans Warped Tour.
