Qeqertat [ qɜˈqɜtːatˢʰ ] (according to the old spelling K'eĸertat ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the district of Uummannaq in the Avannaata Kommunia .
location
Qeqertat is located in the south of the island of Uigukumiat in a small group of islands north of the island of Salleq off the coast of Appat . Ukkusissat is 14 km to the northeast .
history
Qeqertat has been uninhabited for a long time, although remains of earlier settlements can be found, but Greenlanders often came here to collect the eggs of eider ducks . In 1899 a man from Sermiarsuit moved to Qeqertat. In 1905, 20 people lived at the residential area. In 1911 Qeqertat became part of the Ukkusissat parish. In 1914 a few houses were built further northwest on the island in Serfat, where previously there had only been a hunting lodge. In 1915 there were 52 residents who lived in eight houses. Among them were 15 hunters, one of whom also worked as a reader. In 1930, 71 people lived in the village before the population dropped again. In 1945 the last 39 people left the residential area.
