The Quincy wine region is part of the Loire wine region . The area lies in the extended axis of the Sancerre and Menetou-Salon areas . A little further to the west is the Reuilly area . The appellations Pouilly-Fumé , Sancerre, Menetou-Salon Quincy and Reuilly form an axis.

The proximity to the city of Bourges and the limestone soils that are favorable for viticulture, which are similar to those in Sancerre , 60 km away, had a positive effect on the development of viticulture. Today 223 hectares (as of 2005) of a total of 1000 hectares of approved vineyards are planted. The area is divided into the parishes of Quincy (the eponymous parish) and Brinay. The wine has had the status of an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) since August 6, 1936 . 25 winemakers share the vineyard area. In 2006 a total of 12,283 hectoliters of wine were produced.

Wines

There are only white wines from the grape variety Sauvignon Blanc grapes. They are fresh, spicy wines that should be drunk young. Only the wines that come from areas with a higher proportion of clay need a longer bottle aging of about 3–5 years. The wines should be enjoyed at a drinking temperature of 10 to 12 ° C. The yield restriction is 60 hectoliters / hectare, but can be increased to up to 75 hectoliters / hectare in exceptional cases. The minimum must weight is 153 g / l sugar. The corresponding minimum alcohol content is 10.5 percent by volume.

history

Quincy has a very old history of viticulture. According to legend, the Bituriges Cubi already supplied the wine of their region, which also included Quincy, to the Bituriges Vivisci in the region around Bordeaux . The cultivation area is mentioned in writing in a bull from 1120. Later the monks from the Cîteaux monastery brought Sauvignon Blanc to the area.

The preference of Johann von Berry and Karl VII. For this wine earned it the reputation of an excellent wine.
