Haut-Poitou

The Haut-Poitou wine region is located near the communes of Poitiers and Châtellerault in central France. The wine-growing region belongs to the large Loire wine-growing region . Haut-Poitou is south of the Vins du Thouarsais , Anjou and Saumur appellations .

Haut-Poitou was classified as a VDQS on October 23, 1970 . Until 1989 the area was officially called Vin du Haut-Poitou.

The vineyards currently cover almost 800 hectares in 47 communities. The areas are at a height of 80 to 130  m .

The dry red wines are a blend of the grape varieties Pinot Noir, Gamay , Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc , Cabernet Sauvignon vinified, Gamay de Chaudenay and Grolleau. The harvest restriction is 50 hectoliters / hectare. The minimum alcohol content is a low 9% by volume and must not exceed 12.5% in the case of chaptalization . The ruby ​​red, fruity wines should be drunk within 2–3 years of harvesting. The drinking temperature should be around 14-16 ° C. If the wine was mainly made from Gamay, it should be enjoyed young and a little cooler.

The rosé wines are also made from Pinot Noir , Gamay , Merlot , Malbec , Cabernet Franc , Cabernet Sauvignon , Gamay de Chaudenay and Grolleau . Their optimal drinking temperature is 10 ° C. However, they are rarely found as they are only grown to a very limited extent.

The dry white wines are referred to as waste from the varieties Sauvignon Blanc , Chardonnay , Chenin Blanc (80% proportion min.) And Pinot Blanc produced. The straw yellow wines should be drunk within one to two years after the harvest. The drinking temperature should be 10–12 ° C.
