NN high watershed between Loire and Cher and has an area of 21 hectares . It is the southernmost of all Touraine growing areas.
history
An old wine press from the 2nd century was found near Azay-le-Rideau . The influence of the church ensured a continuous development of wine growing, especially between the 8th and 12th centuries. The royal court at Chambord Castle in the Loire Valley contributed to a considerable expansion of the cultivation areas and the quality. Again in the 18th century, the cultivation area was expanded to include Thésée , Montrichard (today: Montrichard Val de Cher ) and Chenonceaux .
In 1985 a cooperative was founded to professionalize the wine tradition that began here in 1905. Only the Sauvignon Blanc grape variety is cultivated. Since 2011, “Premiere Millésime” has been expanded on a trial basis.
Soil and climate
The soil is well permeable due to its high proportion of sand, which is often interspersed with gravel. These upper layers lead to good warming, which favors the ripening of the vines. There are clay inclusions in the underlying layers of earth, which provide an adequate supply of water. The climate corresponds to that of the neighboring Touraine regions. Very little slope leads to even crop yields.
The average annual yield is 1100 hl , which corresponds to 60 hl / ha. The stock density is 5200 / ha. As a result, classy wines are produced, which primarily reveal floral notes, citrus fruits and exotic fruits in terms of aromas.
