The Reuilly wine-growing region is located in central France in the Loire wine-growing region in the extension of the Pouilly-Fumé , Sancerre , Menetou-Salon and Quincy appellations about 70 km from the Loire . The vineyards spread over the seven churches Reuilly , Diou , Lazenay , Chéry , Lury , Cerbois and Preuilly and are thus in the departments of Indre and Cher . The vineyards are located in the immediate vicinity of the Quincy appellation on the banks of the Cher , Théols and Arnon rivers , a tributary of the Cher, halfway between the cities of Vierzon and Issoudun .
The soil consists of a limestone plinth from the geological age of the Kimmeridgian , which is covered by sand-gravel deposits from the Pliocene . The thickness of the topsoil is quite small at approx. 20-25 cm.
Of the total of 600 hectares of recognized vineyards, 191 hectares are currently planted. 92 hectares of which are allocated to Sauvignon Blanc , 61 hectares to Pinot Noir and 28 hectares to Pinot Gris .
The white wine is made from a single variety of Sauvignon Blanc. The regulation requires that the must contains at least 153 g of sugar per liter (see must weight ). After fermentation, the minimum alcohol content in the wine must be 10.5% by volume. The harvest restriction is 60 hectoliters / hectare for white wines and 55 hl / ha for rosé and red wines.
The red wine and the rosé wine are blended from the Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris grape varieties. The regulation requires that the must contain at least 162 g of sugar per liter. After fermentation, the minimum alcohol content in the wine must be 10.0% by volume. The harvest restriction is 55 hectoliters / hectare. The rosé wine is produced both traditionally and using the Saignée process.
For its white wines, Reuilly received the status of an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) on September 29, 1937 , and on August 24, 1961, the red and rosé wines were also recognized as AOC.
history
Viticulture in Reuilly is first mentioned in writing in the 9th century. This document explains that Reuilly was bequeathed by King Dagobert I, with its lands, forests and vineyards, to the Abbey of Saint-Denis .
