Summit region

The current summit region of the Rößberg was created from 2013 to 2014 through an artificial earthfill. Unpolluted earth was only allowed to be poured there due to the establishment of the Via Regia lookout point , and the landfill fees that the city received for the earthfill have more than refinanced the lookout structure.

A former quarry extends up to the summit region .

The Via Regia lookout point , which was inaugurated on March 16, 2014, is located on the Rößberg . Its 7.5 m high observation tower is a metal and reinforced concrete structure on which a 3.5 m high cross stands. Its name refers to the former trade route Via Regia , which originally ran from Frankfurt am Main through the Huenfeld region to Breslau . From the 25 m² viewing platform, the view falls, among other things, to parts of the Hochrhön with the Dammersfeldkuppe in the south-southeast, to the Hessian bowling game in the northeast and to the region between Fulda , Hünfeld and Rasdorf , through which a section of the Via Regia once ran.
