The Regina Baltica is a ship built as a ferry that was used in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. In 2013 the ship was converted into a hotel ship for use in offshore wind farms.

history

The Regina Baltica was built in 1980 as a Viking Song for the Viking Line , which used it together with the sister ship Viking Saga as a ferry between Helsinki and Stockholm. In 1985 the ship was sold to Fred Olsen Line and used as the Braemar between Oslo and Hirtshals or between Oslo and Harwich . In December 1990, Fred sold. Olsen Line operates its ferry services on Color Line , but not Braemar . In January 1991 the ship was chartered by the Baltic Shipping Company and was to be used under the name Baltica between St. Petersburg (Leningrad) and Stockholm . However, this could not be realized and so the ship was temporarily laid up in Hamburg . In the same month the ship was chartered by the Russian army to transport troops from the former GDR . The ship, renamed Anna Karenina , was badly devastated by the Russian troops and had to be repaired in Hamburg. From March 1991, Baltic Line finally started using the ship on the St. Petersburg (Leningrad) - Nynäshamn - Kiel route . This route was discontinued in 1995, Baltic Line was declared bankrupt in 1996.

The ship was renamed Anna K. , returned to Fred. Olsen Line, was launched in Germany and sold to Estline in 1996 . Renamed Regina Baltica , it was used between Stockholm and Tallinn . At the end of 2000, Estline became part of Tallink . In the spring of 2005, the ship was chartered by NATO as accommodation in Bodø, Norway, for the soldiers participating in the "Battle Griffin" exercise. In May 2006 the ship was replaced on this route by the Romantika and used on the Stockholm- Riga route as the successor to the Fantaasia and in April 2009 by the Romantika . The Regina Baltica was chartered by Acciona Trasmediterránea and deployed between Almería and Nador from June 15, 2009 . It came back to Tallink on September 20, 2009 and was launched in Riga. At the end of May 2010, she was chartered again by Acciona Trasmediterránea. It served the Almería - Nador line and was operated between Algeciras and Tangier from June to September 3 .

On September 11, 2010, the ship arrived on the Faroe Islands to replace the Smyril between Tvøroyri and Tórshavn during a stay at the shipyard. From October 15, the Smyril took over this route again. From June to September 2011 the Regina Baltica drove in the Mediterranean on the Almería (Spain) - Nador (Morocco) route.

In 2012 the Regina Baltica was converted into a hotel ship and initially used for the construction of the Sheringham Shoal Farm offshore wind farm in England. At the beginning of 2013, the ship was converted in Riga for the Swedish offshore service company SWE Offshore Maritime and retrofitted with a helicopter platform on the bow. On board the ship, which can stay at sea for 30 to 40 days, 200 people can be accommodated in single cabins. The ship was used as a hotel ship for the construction of the Bard Offshore 1 wind farm .

On February 27, 2015, the ship was sold to SweOffshore . The handover took place on April 7, 2015. In February 2017 the ship was sold to BaleàriaEurolineas Maritimas . In March the flag was changed on Cyprus and the home port became Limassol. The ship has been in service between Valencia and Mostaganem since June 2017 .

Incidents

On September 27, 2005, the ship ran aground in Swedish waters near Kapellskär , but was released again on its own.

On October 13, 2017, a fire broke out in the engine room in Valencia .

Sister ships

A sister ship , the Viking Saga , was converted to the cruise ship Sally Albatross in 1990 and now sails as Celestyal Crystal for Celestyal Cruises.
