Rekownica ( German Rekownitza , 1921 to 1945 Großwalde ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It belongs to the rural community Jedwabno (1938 to 1945 Gedwangen ) in the Powiat Szczycieński ( Ortelsburg district ).
Geographical location
Rekownica is located on the river of the same name, which flows into the Omulef (in Polish Omulew ) a few hundred meters later , and southwest of the Klimmeck Lake ( Jezioro Klimek in Polish , also Jezioro Konik ) in the southern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . The former district town of Neidenburg (Polish: Nidzica ) is 29 kilometers southwest, today's district metropolis Szczytno ( German Ortelsburg ) is 16 kilometers northeast.
history
The village called Prekownitza and later Rekownitza was founded in 1710. From 1874 to 1945 the village was incorporated into the administrative district Malga (Polish Małga ), which belonged to the East Prussian district of Neidenburg . 438 inhabitants were registered in Rekownitza in 1910.
On May 24, 1921, Rekownitza changed its name to "Großwalde". The population was 416 in 1933 and 385 in 1939.
In 1945, as a result of the war, Großwalde was transferred to Poland with all of southern East Prussia and was given the Polish form of the name "Rekownica". As the seat of a Schulzenamt ( Sołectwo in Polish ), Rekownica is now part of the Jedwabno rural community (1938 to 1945 Gedwangen ) in the Szczycieński powiat ( Ortelsburg district ), and the Olsztyn Voivodeship until 1998 , and since then has been part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . In 2011 the village had 75 inhabitants.
The old cemetery in Rekownica still reminds of the time of the First World War . There is a grave on it for 26 Russian soldiers who perished in the Battle of Tannenberg (1914) .
church
Rekownitza resp. Großwalde was parish in the Protestant Church of Malga in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and also in the Roman Catholic Church of Jedwabno in the Diocese of Warmia .
Today, both denominations are related to Jedwabno, the village now being in the Masuria diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland and in the Archdiocese of Warmia .
traffic
Rekownica is located on the Voivodship Road 508 , which is important for traffic , which connects the state road 58 near Jedwabno with the state road 57 near Wielbark (Willenberg) . From the now orphaned local authority Małga (German Malga ) a road leads to Rekownica. There is no connection to rail traffic .
