history

Village street in Warchały

The small village called Sawasa at the time was founded in 1572 and was called Warchalle after 1574 and Warschallen after 1871 . In 1874 it was incorporated into the newly established Jedwabno District , which - renamed "Gedwangen District" in 1938 - existed until 1945 and belonged to the East Prussian Neidenburg district .

In 1910 there were 201 inhabitants registered in Warchallen. Their number decreased to 184 by 1933 and was 155 in 1939.

As a result of the war, in 1945 all of southern East Prussia - and with it Warchallen - was transferred to Poland . The village received the Polish name form "Warchały" and is today with the seat of a Schulzenamt (Polish Sołectwo ) a place in the community of Jedwabno (1938 to 1945 Gedwangen ) in the powiat Szczycieński ( Ortelsburg district ), until 1998 of the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

church

Until 1945 Warchallen was parish in the Protestant church Neuhof (Neidenburg district) ( Nowy Dwór in Polish ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Roman Catholic parish Jedwabno in what was then the Diocese of Warmia . Today Warchallen belongs on the Protestant side to the parish in Jedwabno in the Masuria diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland , and on the Catholic side to the Church of St. Adalbert in Nowy Dwór in the current Archdiocese of Warmia .
