Richard Jones (racing driver)
Richard Jones (born February 3, 1949 ) is a retired British automobile racing driver .
Career
Richard Jones can look back on a long career as a racing driver. He was active in motorsport for almost three decades. At the beginning of his career he competed in both monoposto and sports car races . His first international success was eighth overall with Ian Harrower on a Chevron B26 at the 1000 km race in Zeltweg in 1974 . After a few races in Formula 3 in 1977, he also drove Formula 1 races . Not in the world championship, but in the Aurora series . In 1978 he drove a March 742 in 28th place overall; In 1979 - this time with an Ensign N174 and a Surtees TS19 - he remained unplaced.
From 1980 onwards he only competed in sports and touring car races . He started for different teams in the World Sports Car Championship and was active in the British Touring Car Championship at the end . He had his last season as a driver in 2009, when he entered several races in the British GT Championship.
When 24-hour race at Le Mans he had in 1978 made his debut. His best place in the overall standings was 13th in 1982 .
