Richard Lintner (born November 15, 1977 in Trenčín , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak ice hockey player who was active in the National Hockey League with the Nashville Predators , New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins, among others . In Europe he played mainly for his home club HC Dukla Trenčín , Friborg-Gottéron from the National League A , for HK Dinamo Minsk and various Scandinavian clubs.
Career
Richard Lintner began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth of HC Dukla Trenčín , for whom he made his debut in the extra league in the 1995/96 season . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1996 in the fifth round as a total of 119th player by the Phoenix Coyotes . First, however, he played another season in the Extraliga for the newly promoted HK Spišská Nová Ves . After the defender in the 1997/98 season for the farm team of the Phoenix Coyotes, the Springfield Falcons from the American Hockey League , he was released on October 31, 1998 together with Cliff Ronning to the Nashville Predators , for which he was in the season 1999/2000 made his debut in the National Hockey League , where he scored a total of six scorer points, including one goal, in 33 games. However, as in the previous year, he spent most of the season with their farm team from the International Hockey League , the Milwaukee Admirals .
For the 2001/02 season, Lintner returned to Europe, where he initially played six games for his ex-club HC Dukla Trenčín before he was runner- up with MODO Hockey from the Swedish Elitserien . Nashville, which still had the NHL rights to the player, transferred him in exchange for Peter Smrek on March 19, 2002 to the New York Rangers , for whom he played in the 2002/03 season as well as for their league rivals Pittsburgh Penguins . On August 20, 2003, the right-handed shooter received a contract as a free agent with the Swedish first division club Djurgården Hockey , which he left after just one year to play for Friborg-Gottéron in the Swiss National League A in the following two seasons . After a season at Skellefteå AIK , the 2002 world champion began the 2007/08 season again in Trenčín and ended it in Sweden at Färjestad BK .
In the summer of 2008 Lintner was obliged by HK Dinamo Minsk from the newly founded Continental Hockey League , for which he scored 17 points, including seven goals, in 33 games. However, he ended the season at HC Dukla Trenčín in the extra league, for which he was on the ice until October 2009. After that he returned to Dinamo Minsk.
At the beginning of the 2010/11 season Lintner played again for his home club before he was signed by SaiPa Lappeenranta in November 2010 .
He returned to his hometown club Dukla one last time in September 2014 before retiring in February. He had previously started to work in the club's marketing department and as a TV expert.
In the early summer of 2015 he applied for the office of president of the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation, but lost the election to the incumbent president, Igor Nemeček .
Since August he has been the managing director of Pro-Hokej Slovakia, the operating company of the Tipsport League .
International
For Slovakia , Lintner took part in the U20 Junior World Championships in 1996 and 1997 and the A World Championships in 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 and 2010 . He was also part of the Slovak squad at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the 2004 World Cup of Hockey .
