Richard Place
Richard Platz (born November 24, 1867 in Chemnitz ; † January 1, 1933 in Hanover ) was a German businessman who determined the international rise of Hackethal wire and cable works for over three decades . His life's work is considered to be one of the most important in the specialist electrotechnical industry .
Life
In 1900 Richard Platz was appointed managing director of Hackthal-Draht- Gesellschaft mbH in Hanover, founded by the brothers Joseph Berliner and Jacob Berliner . Its task was the economic evaluation of the inventions of Louis Hackethal . After the company was initially located in Kniestraße in the (today's) district of Nordstadt , then from 1902 on Nikolaistraße , the managing director relocated the company to its own factory building on the outskirts of the city in 1906, on Stader Chaussee (today's name: Vahrenwalder Straße ) in the (today's) district of Brink-Hafen .
After converting the GmbH into a stock corporation in 1907 Richardplatz became the sole Board determines that drove the expansion of the corporation quickly: he founded in 1908 only a wire drawing, built in 1912 then a rolling mill for copper . In the same year he joined the Association of German power cables manufacturer in and the Brinker port company , in 1914 founded a factory for insulation - pipes .
During the First World War , Richard Platz continued to strive to expand the Hackthal factories despite the war-related shortage of raw materials . During the Weimar Republic , in the midst of German hyperinflation in 1922 , he acquired the Nürnberger Metallwerke .
At the same time, Richard Platz was a member of the German National People's Party from 1921 to 1924 in the provincial parliament of the province of Hanover . As a result of his involvement in the Hanover Chamber of Commerce and Industry , he was elected Vice President of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce in 1923 and was its President from 1926 to 1931 , at the same time as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Lower Saxony-Kassel Economic Association .
Richard Platz earned in-house services in training the next generation of commercial staff. As a businessman, however, he was primarily interested in increasing sales . So he built up sales organizations in most countries of the world , often as subsidiaries .
Richardplatz died on 1 January 1933 , the year the seizure of power by the National Socialists .
Honors
In recognition of his services to the German technology Richardplatz of which was Hanover Technical University , the honorary doctorate awarded (as Dr.-Ing. E. h.).
