The Rio Corumbá in the Brazilian state of Goiás is a right tributary of the Rio Paranaíba and drains into the Paraná Basin .

River course

The Rio Corumbá rises in the Serra dos Pireneus northeast of Pirenópolis , near the border between Pirenópolis and Cocalzinho de Goiás at an altitude of 1200 m. It maintains its eastern course as far as Cocalzinho de Goiás, where it turns south, parallel to the BR-414 federal road to Corumbá de Goiás .

In its further southern course it reaches the Corumba IV reservoir and on the border with Abadiânia it changes the direction of flow to the southeast and becomes the southern border river of the municipal areas of Corumbá de Goiás, Alexânia and Santo Antônio do Descoberto . On the right bank are the communities Abadiânia, Silvânia and Luziânia . The rivers Riberão Congonhas , Riberão das Galinhas , Rio Areias , Rio Descoberto , Rio Alagado and the right tributary of the Rio das Antas flow into this section as left, coming from the north .

After the dam, west-southwest of the city of Luziânia, it crosses the municipality with a south-south-east flow direction. Coming from the north, the Rio São Bartolomeu flows as the largest tributary on the border with Cristalina . The latter, together with the Rio Descoberto, drains most of the Federal District . Then it changes its direction of flow to the southwest, which it then maintains until its confluence with the Rio Paranaíba , initially as a border river between Orizona and Ipameri , then between Pires do Rio and Urutaí . Near the southern end of Pires do Rio and northeast of Caldas Novas it flows into the Corumbá reservoir with the municipality of Ipameri in the east. Shortly after the dam, it flows into the Itumbiara reservoir , which forms the border between Corumbaíba in the east and Caldas Novas, Marzagão , Água Limpa , Buriti Alegre in the west.
