Roger Holéczy ( Hungarian Holéczy Roger ; born October 19, 1976 in Lake Forest , Illinois ) is a former Hungarian - American ice hockey player who was last under contract with Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in the Austrian ice hockey league until 2011 .
Career
Roger Holéczy, who was born in the suburbs of Chicago to Hungarian immigrants , began his career as a hockey player with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the United States Hockey League . From 1996 to 2000 he played for the Northeastern Huskies , the team from Northeastern University in Boston for the championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . He then played in quick succession for New Orleans Brass from the East Coast Hockey League , EA Kempten from the German Regionalliga Süd , the Greensboro Generals and the Pensacola Ice Pilots , both of which were based in the East Coast Hockey League, the St. Pete / Winston-Salem Parrots from the Atlantic Coast Hockey League and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees from the Central Hockey League .
In 2004 Holéczy moved to his parents' homeland, where he played for Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in both the international Interliga and the Hungarian ice hockey league until 2007 . In addition to three Hungarian championship titles in 2005, 2006 and 2007, he won the Interliga with Alba Volán in 2007 and the national cup competition in 2005 and 2007 . He then tried his hand at Sweden, where he competed with the Gislaveds SK in third-class Division 1 . But in 2008 he returned to Hungary, where he played for the next two years with the Budapest Stars in the MOL League and the Hungarian Ice Hockey League. He also played individual games for the Slovakian cooperation partner of the Stars, the HK Nové Zámky . After winning the MOL league with the Hungarian capital city club in 2010, he moved back to Székesfehérvár, where he played in the Austrian ice hockey league for another year and then ended his career.
International
For Hungary , Holéczy took part in the Division I World Championships in 2007 , 2008 , 2010 and 2011 . He was also a member of the Hungarian team, which played in the top class of the world championships for the first time in 70 years at the 2009 World Cup, but could not avoid relegation immediately. He also represented the Hungarian colors in the Olympic qualification for the Vancouver Games in 2010 .
