Roman Andreevich Sludnov ( Russian Роман Андреевич Слуднов , scientific transliteration Roman Andreevič Sludnov ; born February 24, 1980 in Omsk ) is a Russian swimmer .

Life

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , he won the bronze medal in the 100 m chest . In the preliminary rounds for the Olympic Games, he was the first person to swim 100 m chest under a minute.

In 2001 he was voted Europe's Swimmer of the Year after winning the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke at the 2001 World Swimming Championships . At the European Swimming Championships in Budapest in 2006 , Sludnow won the gold medal in the 100 m breaststroke and with the 4 × 100 m individual relay .

On June 29, 2001 in Moscow Sludnow was the first to achieve a best time of under one minute 00: 59.97 in 100 m breaststroke.
