Rudolf Graf Strachwitz
Rudolf Alfred Emanuel Graf Strachwitz (born January 3, 1896 in Groß-Reichenau , Lower Silesia , † August 13, 1969 in Berchtesgaden ) was a German economist and diplomat .
Life
After attending the high school in Sagan , he began his military service during the First World War and was an officer in a unit of the Uhlans . After the end of the war he studied economics at the University of Breslau , the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . After graduating as Dr. rer. pole. from 1921 to 1925 he worked in banks and industry .
In 1925 he joined the diplomatic service as an attaché and until 1944 he was employed in the Foreign Office and in diplomatic missions in Kobe , Tokyo , Beijing , Canton , Washington, DC , Paris , Budapest and Barcelona . On December 1, 1936, he joined the NSDAP .
From 1942 to 1944 he was seconded to the Reich Ministry for the Occupied Eastern Territories . From March 1944 to April 1945 he was a soldier in World War II . In 1948 he accepted a position as professor of economic policy and administrative sciences at the University of Mendoza ( Argentina ).
After his return to the Federal Republic of Germany, he returned to the diplomatic service in 1951 and was initially counselor at the embassy in Italy . Subsequently, in 1956, as a lecturer in the Legation Council, he became head of the Department for China in the Foreign Office.
In mid-March 1957 he was finally appointed ambassador to the Holy See as successor to Wolfgang Jaenicke and held this post until he retired in 1961. Hilger van Scherpenberg was his successor .
