Rudolf Kalmowicz
Rudolf Kalmowicz (born March 19, 1915 in Pierzchnica ; † April 2, 2007 in Erding ) was a German film producer , cinema operator and entrepreneur.
Life
Kalmowicz was the son of the Jewish merchants Majer and Gerla Kalmowicz. In 1940 his father died in Kielce . His mother, wife and three-year-old son Marjan lost their lives in a Polish extermination camp that same year . He himself survived the Holocaust .
After the end of the war he began to build up an existence as a haulage company in Erding , initially with three trucks . In 1951 he married his second wife Hella. She came from the Erdingen merchant family Kraus and was married to the opera singer Karl Schuster.
Kalmowicz was the operator or co-operator of some movie theaters in Bavaria, starting with the “Filmbühne” in Dorfener Jahnstraße 67 after the World War II. In the 1950s and 1960s the "Scala-Lichtspiele" followed in the Kaltenhoferstraße in Augsburg-Oberhausen , in Erding the "Eli - Erdinger Lichtspiele" ( privy councilor Irl -Straße 4 ) and the "Rathaus-Lichtspiele" ( Landshuter Straße 6 ) , in Munich - Trudering the "Victoria Theater" ( Schmuckerweg 1 ) and in Aichach the "Film-Bühne" ( Tandlmarkt 6 ) and the "Lichtspiele Hubmannstraße" (also "Aichach Central").
Kalmowicz was also involved in real estate and car trading. Among other things, he operated a BMW car dealership at Erdinger Rennweg 43 . According to a Spiegel report from 1977, as a film enthusiast, he financially supported his colleague Wolfdieter Freiherr von Stein and his production company Cinerama . Kalmowicz made headlines again and again, among other things after he was violent against actress Helga Martin's lawyer Lothar Frantz in 1960 as part of a labor court case after the latter questioned his liquidity . On the occasion of the production of The Miracle of Fatima he was even called to a special audience by Pope John Paul II in 1984.
Kalmowicz last lived with his daughter's family in the Erdinger district of Altenerding . He died at the age of 92. His body was buried in the Gottesacker St. Paul cemetery in Erding. The previous word service was held by the former pastor of Erdingen, Josef Mundigl .
