Rudolf Anton Johann Graf von Salis-Zizers (born June 29, 1779 in Zizers , † April 1, 1840 ) was a Swiss officer in the Austrian army.

Life

family

Rudolf Graf von Salis-Zizers came from the old Swiss aristocratic family of the Catholic line of the Salis from the south of Graubünden . His father was the royal Sicilian Lieutenant Field Marshal Simon Count von Salis-Zizers (* September 24, 1736 - August 1827 in Chieti ), and his mother was Maria Josepha Countess von Salis-Zizers (* October 15, 1751 - January 21, 1801 ). His brother was Franz Simon von Salis (1777–1845) and his sisters Josepha von Salis (1769–1770) and Anna von Salis (1773–1775).

Rudolf Graf von Salis-Zizers was his first marriage to Pauline Freiin van Swieten (* unknown; † October 19, 1811), the marriage remained childless. His second marriage was to Theresia Freiin von Bühler (born September 13, 1791 in St. Petersburg , † June 17, 1868 in Hajany ), daughter of the Imperial Russian State Councilor Jakob Friedrich Freiherr von Bühler (born May 17, 1760; † May 23, 1822). From this marriage came two sons and six daughters:

Rudolf Graf von Salis-Zizers joined the imperial army at a time that can no longer be determined, but at a young age, and was involved as an ensign in the coalition wars against France . In 1799 he left the army, but in 1804 he rejoined the captain and was assigned to Infantry Regiment No. 2 "Archduke Ferdinand Carl", renamed "Johann von Hiller" in 1806.

In March 1809 he was a major in command of the 5th Vienna Volunteer Battalion. He and his battalion took part in the Battle of Ebelsberg on May 3, 1809 and on July 10, 1809 in the Battle of Znojmo . Shortly afterwards, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . In August 1813 he was promoted to colonel in the Moravian Infantry Regiment. On February 8, 1814, he led his regiment in Monzambo in the battle of the Mincio and in the campaign against Joachim Murat , King of Naples .

In 1822 he was appointed Major General conveyed, and shortly after Emperor awarded him Francis II. , The site of a service chamberlain at the then Crown Prince , later Emperor Ferdinand I. In June 1832 he was appointed Field Marshal Lieutenant promoted and in this capacity, the Archduke Franz Karl as High Steward added . Honors

  • Because of his military achievements in the battles near Ebelsberg and near Znaim, he was made a knight of the Order of Maria Theresa in 1810 .
  • Salisstrasse in Penzing was named after him in 1901 .
