First he played with the team from the West Midlands in the British National League . After this could be won in 2003, he moved with his team to the Elite Ice Hockey League , the top division of the kingdom. In 2005, Cowley with Coventry Blaze as the main round winner of the EIHL became British champions for the first time and also won the EIHL playoffs and the Challenge Cup. In 2006 he moved to the Cardiff Devils for a year . With the Welsh in 2007 he was also able to win the British Championship, the Challenge Cup and, for the first time, the Knockout Cup. He then returned to Coventry and won the British Championship again in 2008 and 2010. In addition, the Knockout Cup was won in 2008. In 2015 he and his team won the playoffs of the Elite Ice Hockey League for the second time ten years after their first success. After 15 years with the West Midlands team , he retired in 2017 at the age of 35. The club said they will not be re-issuing their jersey number 17.

In the end, however, the British failed to Kazakhstan , as the Asians were able to turn their last game against Ukraine after a 2-1 deficit.
