history

Hall protection (2013)

After a split maxi with Knarf Rellöm on Rewika Records in 2003, ZickZack Records made the first album in 2004 with Das ist nicht mein Problem . Saalschutz combines electronic dance music with mostly German-language, rarely English, French or Swiss-German, often Dadaist texts and spoken word . Elements of synthpop , electro punk and electroclash - but also of metal , garage rock , tribal house and trance - are interwoven into a style that can be compared with Knarf Rellöm, Räuberhöhle and, to a certain extent, Egotronic . In 2003 the hall protection song Empty, a more meaningless expression, was played by John Peel in his eponymous show. The music magazine Spex judged the record: “To howl. To love. To get used to. To ultimately stick with it. ”In 2006, ZickZack and the Hamburg label Audiolith Records released the second regular album Saalschutz machts Possible . After extensive touring and numerous DJ sets, the third album followed in October 2010. Either Saalschutz and in March 2013 Saalschutz-nothing , in which the bonus live album Dancing corners edges singing has been settled. Hall protection for nothing contains an intro by DJ Bobo and a feature with Torsun by Egotronic ( while you are partying, your people die ). The band stayed true to electronic music, but audibly opened up to pop on their last album.

During their 16 years of activity, the band has documented over 400 concerts in various European countries, mainly in German-speaking countries. These include festivals such as the Winterthurer Musikfestwochen , Pop up in Leipzig , Bad Bonn Kilbi, Lethargy Festival Zurich, Melt Festival, Obstwiesenfestival Dornstadt , Reeperbahn Festival , Sputnik Spring Break , SonneMondSterne , Chiemsee Summer and many more. The clubs used include Toni Molkerei, Rohstofflager und Dachkantine (in today's Toni-Areal ), the shipbuilding part of the Schauspielhaus , Hive Club, Zukunft, Stall 6, Helsinki Klub (Zurich), Dachstock Reitschule, ISC (Bern), SO36 , Festsaal Kreuzberg, Astra, About Blank , Ritter Butzke (Berlin), Hafenklang , Uebel & Hazardous , Künstlerhaus Kempten , Golden Pudel Club (Hamburg), Werk 2 , Institut für Zukunft (Leipzig) Arena , Fluc (Vienna).

At the beginning of 2017, Saalschutz announced their dissolution. The concerts of the short farewell tour through Germany were mostly sold out. Then the band broke up. A farewell TAZ article recognized the innovative spirit and the work of the band.

The duo largely dispenses with explicit political expressions of opinion in the lyrics, but participates in initiatives such as I Can't Relax in Germany and Rage against Deportation .
