Salchendorf is a district of Netphen in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia with 1249 inhabitants (December 31, 2013).

Salchendorf was first mentioned in a document on June 3, 1311 as "Salchendorph".

Until the end of 1968 the place belonged to the office of Netphen . The municipality of Salchendorf, Amt Netphen (official name) became a district of the new large municipality of Netphen during the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1969, and since 2000 a district.

Since October 2008 there have been three wind turbines on the beet grove in the direction of Autobahn 45 , which have been in operation since 2009.

Salchendorf town center

Salchendorf is on the L729. The place is connected to the A 45 via Wilnsdorf . Until August 2009 the rails of the Kleinbahn Weidenau – Deuz ran through the town. VWS takes over the bus transport .

Social facilities

Social and public facilities are the kindergarten, a football field, two children's playgrounds and a sports field with modern artificial turf . There is also a back, a rifle house and a cemetery in the village. The primary school was closed at the end of the 2013/14 school year.

SV Germania Salchendorf is the largest association with over 800 members. It was founded in 1910 and, in addition to soccer, which is the main focus, offers a successful table tennis department as well as badminton, gymnastics and children's gymnastics.

Since at least 1920 there has been a bachelor association in Salchendorf, the so-called sausage commission. This has about 50 active members (12 of them in the council of elders). In the center of the village there has been a memorial for the sausage commission, which Bernd Heinemann, a regionally known artist, made.

The Musikkapelle Salchendorf eV, also founded in 1920, has a large musical repertoire, from concert music to entertainment and dance music to the musical design of shooting festivals. Through youth work, there has been its own youth orchestra cravallo ffortissimo since 2000 .

In 1987 the Salchendorfer Heimatverein was founded.

In addition, the St. Hubertus Salchendorf-Helgersdorf Shooting Society and the “Treue” mixed choir still exist today.

Attractions

In Salchendorf there are still numerous half-timbered houses and there is a village well. The church has a large organ. Among other things, there is a Gothic wooden figure of St. Nicholas in the church, which came from the parish church of St. Cäcilia Irmgarteichen . There is a Catholic public library.
