Sam Verelst (born March 19, 1991 in Deurne (Antwerp) , Belgium ) is a German - Belgian ice hockey player who has been a member of the Füchse Duisburg squad in the ice hockey league since 2017 . His younger brother Senna Peeters (born June 14, 2002 ) is also an ice hockey player and his father Gert Peeters (born January 7, 1968 ) is a former ice hockey player and coach.

Career

Sam Verelst, born in Antwerp, first went through the offspring at the Düsseldorfer EG from 2005 to 2010 . From the U16 team, to the DEG Youngstars to the second team of the DEG Metro Stars, Verelst went through all teams. At ECC Preußen Juniors Berlin , the German-Belgian spent a season in the major league from 2010, before he went to the Fischtown Pinguins in Bremerhaven a year later . There he prevailed against established players and thus repeatedly earned himself an ice age in the 2nd league and later also in the DEL2. Verelst scored 18 points in 126 games for the Pinguins. Thanks to a cooperation between the Pinguins and the Hamburg Freezers DEL team , Verelst even played in the DEL at times. For the 2015/16 season, Verelst then went to the major league in Herne. For the Herner EV he got 91 games and 106 points in two seasons. For the 2017/18 season, Verelst then moved to league rivals Füchse Duisburg .

International

At the 2018 Ice Hockey World Championships in Division II Group A , Verelst played for the Belgian national team for the first time, scored 4 assists in 5 games and was also voted Top Player on Team.
