history

The San Marino U-21 national soccer team took part in the qualification for a U-21 European soccer championship for the first time in 1990 . So far, however, the team has never qualified for a European finals. So far the team has won three games, one of them against Sweden . The San Marinese lost the game 6-0, but the game was subsequently rated 3-0 for San Marino by UEFA because the Swedish team had suspended players in the squad. In 2007 the team lost 2-1 to Armenia , but this game was also rated 3-0 for San Marino because of irregularities on the part of the Armenians.

In qualifying for the U-21 European Championship 2013 , San Marino was able to achieve a 0-0 win against Greece , which was celebrated as a success by the San Marines. The team achieved their first sporting victory on September 6, 2013 against the U-21s from Wales , in front of their home crowd San Marino sensationally won 1-0 with a header from Juri Biordi in the 21st minute of the game. It was the second competitive win ever for a San Marino national team (the U-17 won 2-1 against Andorra in 2002), if you ignore the other two games rated 3-0 for San Marino. On March 5, 2014, a 0-0 win against Finland was achieved, meaning that San Marino has already achieved an historic four points in the group stage to qualify for the 2015 U-21 European Championship .

Giuseppe Canini coached the team from 1992 to 2010, after which the team was taken over by Pierangelo Manzaroli , who took over the seniors in 2014. Since then, the team has been trained by Mirco Papini .
