history
Schönhagen is first mentioned in writing in 1348 as Schonenhaghen .

Infrastructure
The course of the state road NRW 861, which has a connection to the Extertalstraße to the west near Bösingfeld , runs through the district . This creates a connection between the towns of Barntrup and Rinteln through the Extertal. The Extertalbahn , which is now only used for tourism, runs almost parallel to the road . There was a train station on this railway line at Bösingfeld.
Even if the town is still rural, agriculture and forestry hardly play a significant role today . There is a campsite in the tourism area. The Schönhagen estate should be mentioned as a sight. A few kilometers north on the "Rintelschen Hagen" in the district of Rott are the remains of the ramparts of the Uffoburg , an early medieval castle.
