history
Schafhausen was, as the place-name broadcast on -hausen suggests, probably founded in the 8th century and probably goes back to sheep farming in a Carolingian estate. Schafhausen was called "Scafhusen" in the 12th century. The oldest owners were the Counts of Calw and the Lords of Beutelsbach . Then in the early 15th century Schafhausen belonged to the Margraves of Baden , then to the Lords of Gemmingen , who sold the village to Württemberg . Schafhausen sold it in 1468 to the Hirsau Monastery , which was already wealthy here , with whom it returned to Württemberg through the Reformation . In 1534 Schafhausen became Protestant in the course of the Reformation. Since part of the town with the church burned down in the Thirty Years' War in 1634 , only buildings from the Baroque period can be found in the historic town center.
In 1801 the new tithe barn was built, which was sold to private individuals as early as 1854 as a result of the tithe replacement. In 1807, in the course of the dissolution of the monastery offices, the monastery office in Hirsau came to the Oberamt Calw and thus also Schafhausen. As a result of the regional reform in Württemberg, Schafhausen came to the Oberamt Böblingen in 1813 . In 1850 Schafhausen had 733 Protestant and one Catholic residents, who lived and worked in 119 main and 104 auxiliary buildings. In 1872, with the completion of the Württemberg Black Forest Railway , Schafhausen was connected to the railway network . In 1938 Schafhausen came to the district of Leonberg . With the dissolution of the Leonberg district on January 1, 1973, Schafhausen became part of the Böblingen district . On August 1, 1973 Schafhausen was incorporated into Weil of the city. With the cessation of passenger traffic on the Weil section of the city- Calw of the Württemberg Black Forest Railway in 1983 and the cessation of freight traffic in 1988, Schafhausen lost its connection to the rail network.
Schafhausen received a primary school in 1953 , which was renovated in 1999 and at the same time was named Schule am Schafberg . In 1960 a gymnasium and festival hall was built, which was renovated in 2004/2005. In the early 1990s, the Stubenberghalle was added as a local gymnasium and sports hall. There is also a kindergarten .

religion
Schafhausen has been consistently Protestant since the Reformation . To date, only a few Catholics , Muslims or other religious affiliates live in Schafhausen.
Cyriacus Church
It got its name after Saint Cyriacus , who lived under Emperor Diocletian in the 3rd century and healed his daughter. He was later executed by Emperor Maximilian in the course of the persecution of Christians .
The church was first mentioned in the 11th century. In 1534 the church became Protestant. The believers came to Schafhausen from Dätzingen , Döffingen and Weil der Stadt . Therefore, the church had to be expanded by Hanz Decker in 1585.
In the Thirty Years' War (1634) it burned down with the exception of a few visible remains of the wall and had to be rebuilt by 1661. In 1957 the church as you can see it today was renovated. In 2007 it received two more bells and now has a total of four bells.

coat of arms
On the coat of arms you can see a sheep with a crosier on a green background, this should refer to the centuries-old tradition of sheep breeding. The crosier reminds us that Schafhausen once belonged to Hirsau Monastery .
