Garvensburg Castle

The Garvensburg is a castle built in the style of historicism in Züschen , a district of Fritzlar in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse .

history

The castle was built from 1894 to 1898 by the industrialist Wilhelm Garvens , who was ennobled in 1908 and was then allowed to call himself Wilhelm von Garvens-Garvensburg . He built a hunting lodge in the style of late historicism, a castle-like villa, surrounded by an English garden . Remnants of the former Züschen Castle of the lords of Meysenbug , who were wealthy here until the early 19th century and who died out in the male line in 1810 with the death of Heinrich von Meysenbug , were integrated into the building. On the east side of the castle there are four coats of arms of the von Meysenbug family from the years 1500 to 1600.

The castle remained in the possession of the Garvens family until the 1970s. Afterwards it housed a hotel and restaurant as well as an advertising agency and a consulting company. The hotel and restaurant were closed at the end of 2019. The castle was sold in August 2020 and will be used privately in the future.
