Gilsa Castle (Oberhof)

The Oberhof Gilsa , also known as Gilsa Castle , is a manor house located in a park in the village of Gilsa , a district of the Neuental municipality in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse .

The construction

The originally medieval, three-storey, brightly plastered stone building with a simple saddle roof is located west of the patronage church on the northern edge of the village. It was the ancestral seat of the branch "Gilsa-Oberhof" of the local noble family from and to Gilsa , which in the 16th century divided into two large branches, "Gilsa-Oberhof" and "Gilsa-Unterhof". The building, with a rectangular floor plan with a side length of around 25 × 11 m, dates from the 16th century. It was later extended by an extension to the north on the park side. An eastern oriel porch extending to the eaves was added in 1723. A striking stepped gable adorns the south side . The input on the west side is located in a to the roof ridge protruding porch . In 1862 the outside of the building was sold .

Coat of arms stones

In the masonry on the outside next to the front door, heraldic stones from 1634 (by Dalwigk / von Gilsa / von Löwenstein ) and 1652 (by Scholley / von Gilsa) are embedded. Immediately to the left of the door is another undated coat of arms stone (by Gilsa / von Kuhmann), which reminds of Zeitlose von Kuhmann, wife of the founder of the Gilsa-Oberhof line, Werner von und zu Gilsa. The name of their son, Hans Caspar, b. 1584. A coat of arms stone of Eckhardt zu Gilsa (around 1470) and his wife Elisabeth von und zu Fischbach is above the entrance on the west side.
