Binsförth Castle

The castle Binsförth was a now existing only in groups small lowland castle in Binsförth , in the municipality of Morschen in northern Hesse Schwalm-Eder-Kreis .

location

The remains of the castle are located at the eastern entrance to the village at 186  m above sea level. NN Höhe on the western edge of the Fulda floodplain , immediately southeast of the village church on an estate , the so-called Rittergut Binsförth on Morschener Straße.

description

It is not known when the castle was built. A rectangular, tower-like building with a walled courtyard was probably built in the first half of the 13th century. The owners were the lords of Binsförth, who died out in the male line after 1439. The castle and village had already changed hands beforehand. From 1471 onwards, one third of the castle and the village, later in full, went to the noble family of the wood nobility , who remained owners until 1526. Thereafter the property went to the Messrs. Von Baumbach, who were related by marriage to them . The gentlemen von Scholley from neighboring Malsfeld also had partial ownership of the castle and estate through inheritance. During the Thirty Years War , the castle is said to have been destroyed by imperial troops in 1637.

Todays use

The property, which is partially listed because of the remains of the castle , is now managed by an ecological company (owned by the State Welfare Association of Hesse ). A courtyard festival with a market is held there every year in October.
