The Schmie or the Schmiebach (GKZ: 238456) is a 12 km long left tributary of the lower Enz in the eastern Enzkreis . It rises southwest of Schmie and flows into the Enz west of Vaihingen . Its catchment area covers 47.4 km².
Surname
For the first time the name "smegowe" (Schmiegau) 788 was mentioned in writing. Contrary to popular belief, Schmie was named after the brook. Today, the term "Schmiebach" is more common to distinguish it from the place. In official writings, however, the term "Schmie" is used.
course
Along with those of Metter and Kirbach, the Schmietal is the southernmost of the three large valleys that divide the Stromberg .
The Schmie rises at a height of 275 m near the place of the same name. The Schmiebach flows consistently in a south-easterly direction. The upper reaches can dry up almost completely during dry periods. The river is lined with trees almost everywhere. On its way, the Schmiebach first passes the Schmie, which is a short distance to the left above the valley basin, and flows through the towns of Lienzingen (after about 1.5 km) and Illingen (after about 7 km). The B 35 and B 10 follow its course . At an altitude of 202 the Schmie flows into the Enz from the left between the Seemühle in the Rowag district on the right bank and the central district of Vaihingen an der Enz .
Tributaries
The Schmie has five left and four right tributaries of some importance. The Glattbach, which only reaches it near the mouth, is by far the largest with its length of 8 km and its partial catchment area of 14.7 km².
Table of the tributaries from the source to the mouth. Stationing, length of watercourse, catchment area and height according to the corresponding layers on the LUBW online map. Catchment area information with approx. Is measured. Other sources for the information are noted. Water code number (GKZ) with inserted separator.
